JMRFD ACCIDENT RESCUE SERVICES

The Jackman - Moose River Fire Department provides accident rescue services for a very large area. Whether the accident involves vehicles on the road, ATV's and snowmobiles miles from the nearest road, or hikers at the tops of mountains, JMRFD firefighters and Jackman Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (JAVACS) members will respond to the situation and do their very best to assist those in need.

The passenger in this vehicle sustained crippling back injuries. The driver of the vehicle failed to slow down when the temperature suddenly dropped changing rain over to snow and wet roads over to icy roads.

Being located in the western mountains of Maine, the Jackman region can be subjected to very rapid changes in weather. One minute it may be raining, the next minute it may be snowing or icing.
ALWAYS use caution when traveling in the Jackman region and be ever alert for sudden changes in weather and road conditions.

Tourists from all over the world come to the Jackman region to see a moose - a truly magnificent creature. However, moose grow to be quite large and are dark colored. So not only are the moose so big that you definitely do not want to hit one, they are difficult to see at night, which increases the chance that you will hit one.  The slogan in the region is "MOOSE ALERT: Go slow or don't go!"

EXTRA NOTE OF CAUTION FOR DRIVERS OF CARS:  Because moose are tall, the bumper of a car will usually hit the moose below the knees, causing the moose to come crashing down on the windshield of the car. This is usually very bad for the driver and front seat passenger of the car.

The driver of this car was going too fast in a moose area at night and struck a moose in the road. The moose came crashing down on to the windshield of the car. Fortunately, the driver and front seat passenger sustained only minor injuries.  The results could have been tragically different.

The driver of this vehicle sustained serious injuries when the car went off the road and struck a drainage ditch, the driver was propelled out through the windshield, and the car rolled over and landed on top of the driver. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and although he was seriously injured, he was very lucky that he survived!

The number one cause of death and serious injuries related to motor vehicle accidents is attributed to the occupants of the vehicle being thrown out of the vehicle because they were not wearing seat belts.

FACT: The use of seat belts saves lives! For the safety of you and your family, please make sure that all of you use seat belts.

JMRFD's old RESCUE unit, LifeFlight helicopter, JAVACS Ambulance

LifeFlight Helicopter is an important part of our plan in the Jackman Region to provide critically injured patients with the care they need as soon as possible after the accident.
While the
Jackman Region Health Center has an emergency room with the necessary ER staff to provide immediate care of many injuries, critically injured patients need to be sent by ambulance or helicopter to a hospital with adequate facilities to house and treat these patients.
