201), Sandy Bay A loaded log truck went off the road spilling logs for
hundreds of feet. 1 person with
minor injuries.
40. 11/29/2001 Reported pole fire Long
Pond Road (Route 15), Jackman Fire was out on FDs arrival.
39. 11/16/2001 Structure Fire Coburn
East, Jackman Fire started in the first floor apartment of the
two-apartment building. Heavy fire
damage to first floor living room and adjacent area. Smoke and heat damage throughout the
rest of the first floor apartment.
Minor smoke damage to the second floor apartment. 2 people in the first floor apartment
suffered burn injuries. Both were
treated for their injuries at the Jackman Region Health Center and
released.
38. 11/14/2001 MVA Main Street (Route
201), Jackman A logging truck hit a moose, the truck jackknifed and hit a
car. 1 person with very minor
injuries.
37. 11/07/2001 Sprinkler System Activation
Main Street (Route 201), Jackman Air pressure in the dry system dropped
allowing the system to be charged with water which activated the alarm
system.
36. 10/29/2001 Logging equipment fire
Off the Spencer Road (aka Hardscrabble Road), Parlin Pond Township A
grapple skidder caught fire and was destroyed.
35. 10/16/2001 Fire alarm activation at
Forest Hills Consolidated School caused by a bad smoke detector - Main
Street (Rt. 201), Town of Jackman.
34. 09/25/2001 Smoke in apartment building
Main Street (Route 201), Jackman plugged chimney caused the oil furnace
to misfire that produced smoke that backed up into the building.
33. 09/21/2001 MVA Canada Road (Route
201), Johnson Mountain Township truck driver attempted to avoid moose and
slid off the pavement and rolled over into the ditch 1 person with minor
injuries.
32. 09/15/2001 Minor fire in sawdust pile
Talpey Road, Moose River Welding work being done on a stationary log
slasher caused a minor fire in the sawdust piled at the base of the slasher
no damage to equipment.
31. 09/09/2001 Structure fire River
Road, Jackman cigarette ashes dumped into a trash can caused a fire in
the kitchen of a camp. The kitchen
and adjacent bathroom were heavily damaged by fire. The remainder of the camp sustained heat
and smoke damage.
30. 08/31/2001 MVA Main Street (Route
201), Jackman Car traveling at a high rate of speed in a construction
zone struck a steam roller. 1
person with severe injuries; 1 person with minor injuries.
29. 08/28/2001 Fire on stove in kitchen
Main Street (Route 201), Jackman minor fire caused by plastic pan being
left on stove. Fire was
extinguished with dry chemical before JMRFD arrived on scene.
28. 08/15/2001 - Search & rescue for
elderly woman - Hastings Road, Jackman & Moose River. Elderly woman had
gone out to pick blueberries but did not return. Search started late
afternoon and went to dark. There was limited overnight searching,
primarily along roads and trails with search dogs. Full-scale search begin
at first light on the 16th. She was found at 7am, a little cold and scared,
but otherwise healthy.
27. 08/09/2001 - Tree down from thunderstorm
blocking southbound travel lanes - Main Street (Route 201), Jackman -
firefighters provided traffic control for safety reasons until the tree
could be removed.
26. 08/06/2001 - Reported structure fire on
Pleasant Street in Moose River. Actually a malicious false report made by a
male juvenile who now faces official punishment for his actions.
25. 08/04/2001 - MVA - Main Street (Route
201), Jackman - 2 vehicles - 1 person with minor injuries.
24. 07/30/2001 - MVA - MRL Access Road,
Moose River - log truck rollover; no injuries.
23. 07/18/2001 - MVA - Long Pond Road (Route
15), Jackman - 2 vehicles - 1 person with minor injuries.

21. 07/11/2001 - Lift assist to Jackman Area
Volunteer Ambulance Corps to remove a heart attack patient from the second
floor of a house (narrow stairway) out to the ambulance.
20. 06/25/2001 - Small forest fire - off Long
Pond Road (Route 15), Long Pond Township
19. 06/20/2001 - MVA - Main Street (Route
201), Dennistown - single vehicle rollover with one moderate injury and one
minor injury.
18. 06/18/2001 Fire alarm activation at Forest
Hills Consolidated School caused by dust being blown out of computers -
Main Street (Rt. 201), Town of Jackman.

05/28/2001 - Structure fire - Pleasant Street, Moose River - grease fire on
stove caused fire to ignite in stove vent. Only minor fire damage to the
exterior of the structure. Moderate smoke damage in the home.

Main Street (Rt. 201), Moose River - actually a permitted brush pile burn
that appeared to be a house on fire from different view points.

Pond Township - 1 vehicle - 1 person with minor injuries
13. 04/25/2001 Fire alarm activation at an
apartment house caused by flooded basement - Main Street (Rt. 201), Town of
Jackman.

03/30/2001 - Tanker truck off road - Town of Jackman - during a snowstorm,
U.S. Route 201 south of town became treacherous on a hill known as Owl's
Head. A tractor-trailer truck attempted to climb the hill, lost traction,
and slid backwards and across the road before stopping, blocking over half
of the road. JMRFD shut down the road for over 2 hours (no troopers or
deputies were available - they were all off at other motor vehicle
accidents) until the truck was finally removed by being towed by a plow
truck. Numerous vehicles, including several other trucks, were held up
during the removal process. If the FD had not been notified to shut down
the road when it did, there probably would have been motor vehicle
accidents, some of which probably would have involved trucks.

brakes that were smoking.

Canada Road (Rt. 201), Parlin Pond Township - call cancelled in route by
Somerset Comm - neighbor saw hot tub steam and bright lights and thought
what was seen was a building on fire.
5. 01/28/2001 - Utility Pole Fire - Canada
Road (Rt. 201), Johnson Mountain Township - call canceled by fire chief and
re-directed to West Forks Volunteer Fire Department because the fire was
located in WFVFD's coverage area
4. 01/28/2001 - Rescue call for man who
fell in his camp and injured his back; required use of RESCUE sled as
victim was located about 3 miles from the nearest plowed road - Upper
Enchanted Township
