Township. A valve on a logging
contractors fuel truck broke off allowing 200 to 300 gallons of diesel
fuel to spill on the ground. The
logging contractor, instead of reporting the spill as required by law,
decided to set the spilled fuel on fire, which is against the law. A deputy on Route 201 noticed the black smoke
and went to investigate. Upon
arriving on scene, the deputy notified the Somerset Regional Communications
Center. The comm center dispatched
the fire department. Upon arriving
on scene, the firefighters extinguished the fire and determined that the

dawn. A while in to their trip the
wind came up swamping one of the canoes.
When the canoeists in another canoe attempted to assist, the second
canoe was swamped also. (The
canoeists were carrying a lot of gear and the canoes appeared to have been
overloaded.) The canoeists got to a
small island, changed out of their wet clothes and started a fire. (The temperature was just above
freezing.) Another canoeist came by
later and went for help. The four
canoeists who went in to the water were transported to Attean Landing to
the awaiting ambulances where they were all checked out and released.
19.

unable to avoid striking the moose.

fast for the road conditions (was a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain at
the time), and when the road curved to the left the truck went off the
right side of the road where it rolled over and took down a utility
pole. Although the cab of the truck
was heavily damaged, the driver sustained only minor injuries.
14.
03/20/2010 Snowmobile in the water Big Wood Pond, Attean Township. Two snowmobilers were running their sleds
back and forth across a stretch of open water when one of the snowmobiles
sunk. Nearby camp owners called 911
to report the incident. Fortunately
the water was only waist deep at the location where the snowmobile
sunk. Both snowmobilers ended up wet
and cold (the second one went in the water to help the first one tie a rope
to his snowmobile to pull it out), but neither required rescue nor
treatment. They were very lucky even
though they were very stupid. IT IS
AGAINST THE LAW TO TAKE A SNOWMOBILE ON OPEN WATER. SUCH A PRACTICE IS STUPID AND CAN BE
DEADLY.
13.
03/07/2010 Snowmobile Accident ITS 89, Parlin Pond Township. Two snowmobiles collided head on. The operator of one snowmobile had only

Health Center.
12. 02/26/2020 Truck/SUV Accident Main Street (Route 201), Parlin Pond Township. The northbound driver of an SUV pulling a
snowmobile trailer lost control on a slippery stretch of road causing the
SUV to get stuck in the snow bank on the southbound side of the road. An empty southbound tractor trailer truck
coming down a hill (in a 55mph zone) came around a corner and saw the SUV
and trailer in the road, so the truck driver stepped on the brakes. When he did, the truck jackknifed and hit
the SUV and trailer. Fortunately the
SUV driver was out of his vehicle and out of the way when the truck slid in
to the SUV. There were no injuries.
11. 02/26/2010 Tank truck off the road Main Street,
Jackman. A tank truck hauling a load
of liquid caustic soda started up a hill but lost traction on the
snow-covered road. The driver tried
backing the truck down the hill but at the bottom there is a curve in the
road and the road slopes to the ditch so the truck slid sideways towards
the ditch. The truck driver called
for assistance because (1) he was in a bad location with many trucks coming
fast down the hill (55mph zone) and (2) because after stopping and being
parked for several minutes, the truck slid sideways towards the ditch and
was leaning, so the truck driver thought that it might tip over. Two large tow trucks were called and were
able to safely pull the truck back in to the road.
10.
02/20/2010

5. 01/25/2010 Log Truck DOT Plow Truck
Accident Route 201, Sandy Bay Township.
Rain falling on the cold road quickly changed to ice making for very
slippery conditions. The log truck
lost control on the slippery road and the trailer of the truck struck the
plow on the DOT truck. The plow was
broken off the truck, and the truck was pushed back in to the ditch. The driver of the plow truck sustained
minor injuries.

Jackman. Creosote that had built up
in the chimney ignited. Firefighters
