28. 07/20/2010 – Rescue Unresponsive Canoeist – Moose River Bow Trip, Attean Township.  A teenage girl on a canoe trip with a group suffered from dehydration and passed out.  Leaders of the group travelled for two hours by canoe before getting enough cell service to be able to send out a text message.  It was another hour and a half before rescuers could find the canoe with the girl.  The girl was transported to the Jackman Region Health Center, was treated, and then released.

27. 07/12/2010 – Pickup Rollover – Long Pond Road (Rt. 15), Jackman.  Heavy rain caused a pickup to hydroplane off the road in to the ditch, roll over and land on its wheels.  Three other vehicles also slid on the rain-soaked road in the same area.  The driver suffered minor injuries.

26. 07/12/2010 – Pickup – Moose & Pole Accident – Main Street (Rt. 201), Dennistown.  The driver of the pickup hit a moose and went off the road and hit a utility pole, breaking the pole off.  Although the pickup sustained extensive damage, the driver was not injured.  He was wearing his seatbelt and his airbag deployed.

21. 05/17/2010 – Single Vehicle Accident – Long Pond Road (Route 15), Long Pond Township.  The vehicle went off the road into the ditch and struck a culvert.  The pickup sustained substantial damage.  The driver suffered only very minor injuries.

20. 05/13/2010 – Capsized canoeists – Attean Pond, Attean Township.  Six canoeists set out in three canoes at dawn.  A while in to their trip the wind came up swamping one of the canoes.  When the canoeists in another canoe attempted to assist, the second canoe was swamped also.  (The canoeists were carrying a lot of gear and the canoes appeared to have been overloaded.)  The canoeists got to a small island, changed out of their wet clothes and started a fire.  (The temperature was just above freezing.)  Another canoeist came by later and went for help.  The four canoeists who went in to the water were transported to Attean Landing to the awaiting ambulances where they were all checked out and released.

19. 05/11/2010 – Loaded Log Trailer broke off the Tractor Trailer Truck – Main Street (Route 201), Jackman.  While driving through town the driver noticed something wrong and slowed down to pull over in to the break down lane.  When he slowed down the trailer broke free and came forward causing some damage to the truck, then the trailer came off the truck and hit the ground causing serious damage to the landing gear of the trailer.  No one was injured.

18. 05/06/2010 – Trees in the Road – Main Street (Route 201), Dennistown.  High winds brought down numerous trees in the region, and a couple of trees fell and blocked the road.

17. 05/06/2010 – SUV – Moose & Pole Accident – Route 201, Johnson Mountain Township.  The driver of the SUV was unable to avoid striking the moose.  After hitting the moose, the SUV hit a utility pole (breaking it off) and the SUV rolled on to its side.  The driver was severely injured.

16. 03/27/2010 – Pickup Rollover – Route 201, Johnson Mountain Township.  For unknown reasons the pickup went off the road and rolled over.  The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured and was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

15. 03/23/2010 – Log Truck Rollover – Main Street (Route 201), Dennistown.  The driver of the truck was going too fast for the road conditions (was a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain at the time), and when the road curved to the left the truck went off the right side of the road where it rolled over and took down a utility pole.  Although the cab of the truck was heavily damaged, the driver sustained only minor injuries.

14. 03/20/2010 – Snowmobile in the water – Big Wood Pond, Attean Township.  Two snowmobilers were running their sleds back and forth across a stretch of open water when one of the snowmobiles sunk.  Nearby camp owners called 911 to report the incident.  Fortunately the water was only waist deep at the location where the snowmobile sunk.  Both snowmobilers ended up wet and cold (the second one went in the water to help the first one tie a rope to his snowmobile to pull it out), but neither required rescue nor treatment.  They were very lucky even though they were very stupid.  IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO TAKE A SNOWMOBILE ON OPEN WATER.  SUCH A PRACTICE IS STUPID AND CAN BE DEADLY.

13. 03/07/2010 – Snowmobile Accident – ITS 89, Parlin Pond Township.  Two snowmobiles collided head on.  The operator of one snowmobile had only minor injuries and refused treatment and transport.  The operator of the other snowmobile was more seriously injured and was transported by JMRFD’s rescue sled to the ambulance, and then was transported by ambulance to the Jackman Region Health Center.

12.  02/26/2020 – Truck/SUV Accident – Main Street (Route 201), Parlin Pond Township.  The northbound driver of an SUV pulling a snowmobile trailer lost control on a slippery stretch of road causing the SUV to get stuck in the snow bank on the southbound side of the road.  An empty southbound tractor trailer truck coming down a hill (in a 55mph zone) came around a corner and saw the SUV and trailer in the road, so the truck driver stepped on the brakes.  When he did, the truck jackknifed and hit the SUV and trailer.  Fortunately the SUV driver was out of his vehicle and out of the way when the truck slid in to the SUV.  There were no injuries.

11.  02/26/2010 – Tank truck off the road – Main Street, Jackman.  A tank truck hauling a load of liquid caustic soda started up a hill but lost traction on the snow-covered road.  The driver tried backing the truck down the hill but at the bottom there is a curve in the road and the road slopes to the ditch so the truck slid sideways towards the ditch.  The truck driver called for assistance because (1) he was in a bad location with many trucks coming fast down the hill (55mph zone) and (2) because after stopping and being parked for several minutes, the truck slid sideways towards the ditch and was leaning, so the truck driver thought that it might tip over.  Two large tow trucks were called and were able to safely pull the truck back in to the road.

10. 02/20/2010 – Pickup Rollover – Route 201, Johnson Mountain Township.  A northbound pickup pulling a snowmobile trailer with two snowmobiles lost traction on the ice-covered road, slid off the road, and rolled over.  No one was injured.

6.  01/29/2010 – Snowmobile Accident – Border Riders Club Trail, Sandy Bay Township.  The snowmobiler fell off his snowmobile severely hurting his right arm and ribs.  Firefighters used the rescue sled to transport the patient 5 miles to the awaiting ambulance.

5.  01/25/2010 – Log Truck – DOT Plow Truck Accident – Route 201, Sandy Bay Township.  Rain falling on the cold road quickly changed to ice making for very slippery conditions.  The log truck lost control on the slippery road and the trailer of the truck struck the plow on the DOT truck.  The plow was broken off the truck, and the truck was pushed back in to the ditch.  The driver of the plow truck sustained minor injuries.

4.  01/22/2010 – Chimney Fire – Piper Street, Jackman.  Creosote that had built up in the chimney ignited.  Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire without causing any damage to the home.

3.  01/22/2010 – Vehicle Accident – Long Pond Road (Route 15), Jackman.  The driver of the pickup drifted off the right side of the road an in to the snowbank.  The pickup hit the snowbank and came back in to the road where it stopped blocking the travel lane.  The driver then fled the scene.
